Tundra Semiconductor furthers Commitment to Serial Rapidio(R)

Tundra working with lead customers to develop Serial RapidIO Switch

Smart Networks Developer Forum, FRANKFURT, Germany, Sept. 27 /PRNewswire- FirstCall/ -- Tundra Semiconductor Corporation (TSX:TUN), the leader in System Interconnect, today announced that it is developing a serial RapidIO switch that will be designed into customer systems in the first half of calendar year 2005.

Tundra has worked with RapidIO technology since the standard was first introduced and is one of the founders of the RapidIO Trade Association. A key member of the RapidIO ecosystem and the first company to bring RapidIO System Interconnect products to market, Tundra plays a lead role in delivering next- generation System Interconnect products for its communication OEM customers. Customers building equipment for wireless and communication infrastructure will design using this type of device.

STRENGTHENING THE RAPIDIO ECOSYSTEM

RapidIO switches are central to the RapidIO system architecture. Today's bus-based system architectures are reaching their performance limits. RapidIO, a switch fabric-based architecture, delivers the scalability and high- performance functionality demanded by next-generation systems. Serial RapidIO is a point-to-point technology that requires a switch in systems that need more than two processing or bridging elements.

"TI believes Serial RapidIO switches are an important part of the embedded design ecosystem," said Alan Gatherer, Wireless Infrastructure CTO at Texas Instruments. "These switches are expected to help wireless infrastructure OEMs simplify system design by allowing more efficient, feature rich communication between digital signal processors (DSPs), application specific integrated circuits (ASICs) and general purpose processors."

COMMITMENT TO SERIAL RAPIDIO

"Serial RapidIO solves the need for a high-performance interoperable interconnect technology throughout communications infrastructure," said Dan Bouvier, PowerPCO Architecture Manager at Freescale Semiconductor. "Future serial RapidIO switches and high-performance processors will address the requirements of next-generation networking and communications equipment."

"Switches are the foundation to a high-performance system," said Mark Skalabrin, Vice President and General Manager, OEM Solutions at Mercury Computer Systems. "Data and control traffic flow in future embedded designs will be heavily influenced by the switch architectures in these systems."

"Tundra continues to work closely with the members of the RapidIO ecosystem and maintains ongoing dialogue between customers and partners," says Rick O'Connor, Chief Technology Officer at Tundra. "We work to ensure that we will build the serial RapidIO switch our customers need and value for their next-generation communications applications."
